Curtain cleaning · Dubai
Curtains in Dubai catch more dust than any other textile in the home, and most of it is fine mineral dust blown in from outside. We clean them where they hang: a slow pass with the HYLA water filtration system, then steam up to 180°C from top to hem. No taking down, no washing machine, no days without curtains, and far less risk of the shrinkage that washing brings.
Free and without obligation. No extra charges on the day.
European standard. German precision.

Curtain cleaning in Dubai can be done without taking the curtains down. They are vacuumed where they hang with a water filtration machine, then steamed from top to hem, which lifts the fine mineral dust they collect and refreshes the fabric. It avoids the soaking and tumbling that make curtains shrink, but it is a refresh, not a laundry wash.
The curtains stay on the track, and we work on them from top to bottom in two stages: dry first, then steam. Dry comes first because steam turns loose dust into something that clings, so whatever can be lifted dry should leave before any moisture arrives.
The HYLA manufacturer lists curtains among the surfaces the machine is approved for. Its air runs through a water bath, so the dust we lift goes into the water rather than through a bag and back into the room.
Our steps, curtain by curtain
Because curtains are a filter. Every time a window, a balcony door or the AC moves air past them, the fabric catches part of what is in it, and in Dubai that is a lot of mineral dust, most of all in summer.
Three years of hourly air quality data for Dubai show that the dust load is highest in July and August, not in spring. In those two months, monthly average PM10 is roughly three times the January level. A curtain next to a balcony door that was opened through the summer has been filtering that air for months.
The dust itself is mostly ground rock. A 2023 study of indoor dust from Dubai homes found calcium as the largest element measured. That is why you should never brush or beat a curtain on a balcony: it puts fine mineral dust back into the air you breathe indoors.
| Month | PM10 | of which mineral dust |
|---|---|---|
| January | 54.3 | 34.3 |
| March | 83.6 | 72.1 |
| May | 82.8 | 73.1 |
| July | 170.8 | 228.2 |
| August | 178.2 | 245.1 |
| September | 123.4 | 141.2 |
| November | 60.6 | 36.7 |

Some movement is possible with any cleaning, and a recognised standard even sets how much counts as normal. The British curtain standard BS 5867 Part 1 accepts up to 3 percent relaxation. On a curtain with a drop of 213 cm, that is about 6 cm, and a cleaner is not liable for it when the fabric was made up correctly.
Different fibres move differently: polyester moves as little as 1 percent, pure linen up to 4 percent. Linen curtains are therefore the ones where we are most careful, and the ones where a check of the drop beforehand is most useful.
Steaming a curtain while it hangs keeps the three things that drive shrinkage low: soaking, mechanical movement and long exposure to heat. There is no drum, no spin and no full wetting. That is the main reason we work this way, rather than taking curtains down and washing them.
Most curtains in Dubai apartments are polyester or polyester blends, and they take steam well. The fabrics where we hold back are the delicate ones and the coated ones, and we tell you which is which on the day rather than finding out on the fabric.
| Fabric | Our approach | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Polyester, voile and sheers | HYLA, then steam | The easiest case, least movement |
| Cotton | HYLA, then steam with a test first | Can relax slightly |
| Linen | HYLA, light steam, drop checked first | Moves the most of the common fibres |
| Viscose blends | HYLA, very light steam or none | Weak when wet, we keep moisture minimal |
| Silk | HYLA only | Water marks and colour risk, no steam |
| Velvet | HYLA only, on low suction | Steam can crush or mark the pile |
| Coated blackout | HYLA on the fabric side, damp wipe on the coating | Heat can damage the coating, no steam on it |
| Lined and interlined | HYLA, steam on the face fabric | Lining and face can move differently |
Yes, blinds are part of the same visit, and they need a different approach. Venetian and vertical blinds are hard slats, so we vacuum first and then wipe each slat damp. Never dry: Dubai dust is abrasive and dry wiping leaves fine scratches on coated slats.
Fabric roller blinds and Roman blinds are vacuumed with the HYLA. Roman blinds take steam like a curtain. Roller blinds are often coated, so they get a damp wipe instead, and we roll them up only once they are dry. We do not repair cords, chains, springs or motors, and if a mechanism is already stiff we will tell you before we touch it.
Once a year is a sensible baseline for most homes, and the best time is right after the summer. That is our recommendation, not a rule. Because the dust load peaks in July and August, a clean in September or October removes the heaviest part of the year in one go.
Some curtains need it more often: those next to a balcony door that is used every day, those in a flat on a busy road or near a construction site, and those in homes with pets or smokers. Sheers show dust first. If the hem of a white sheer has turned grey, the rest of the curtain is carrying the same dust, it just shows it less.
Steaming on site is a refresh, and it has honest limits. Here they are before you book, not after.
Not part of our curtain cleaning
A good one asks about the fabric before talking about the price, and tests on a hidden spot before steaming the face of the curtain. A provider who treats silk, velvet and coated blackout exactly like polyester is telling you something.
A good one also talks about shrinkage before it happens. Ask what happens if the curtain moves. The honest answer mentions the drop, the fabric and the standard, and does not pretend the risk is zero.
And a good one tells you what they do not do. If you need curtains taken down and laundered, we will say so rather than steam something that needs a wash.
Clear the window sills and the floor in front of the curtains, move anything fragile out of reach, and make sure we can get to the top of the curtains. If you know the fabric or have the care labels, tell us. If you want certainty about the length, measure one drop yourself before we come, it takes two minutes.
We quote one fixed price on WhatsApp before we start. It depends on how many windows and curtains there are, their height and width, whether there are sheers and linings, how many blinds are included, and whether windows or a full home deep clean are added to the same visit. Photos of each window are usually enough for a quote.
Clean curtains in front of dusty glass and a dusty sill do not stay clean for long. Our team does windows, frames, sliding door tracks and the rest of the home in the same visit, so the dust has nowhere to come back from.

No. Many customers hand over a key or let us in and leave. You tell us how you prefer it when we agree the appointment.
No. We clean them where they hang, with the HYLA and our steam machine. That avoids rehanging, avoids days without curtains, and avoids the soaking and tumbling that make curtains shrink in a washing machine.
Yes. Venetian, vertical, roller and Roman blinds are part of the same visit. Slats are wiped damp, never dry, because Dubai dust scratches.
For most curtain fabrics, yes. Steaming while the curtain hangs lifts dust and relaxes creases without soaking the fabric or tumbling it, which is what causes most shrinkage in washing. It is not right for silk, velvet or coated blackout surfaces, which we vacuum instead. Heavy stains may still need a full wash at a specialist laundry.
Yes. We vacuum them on the track with water filtration, then steam them from top to hem. You keep your curtains up the whole time, nobody has to rehang them, and the room is usable the same day. It works best as regular care. A curtain that is badly stained or smells of smoke usually needs a full wash.
Steam carries very little water, so the fabric is usually only slightly damp and dries while hanging. How fast depends on the fabric, the room temperature and the humidity. Keep the curtains open and the room ventilated or air conditioned afterwards, and avoid pushing them tightly together until they feel dry.
Steaming on site is the gentlest way we know, because there is no soaking and no drum. Some fabrics can still relax slightly. The British curtain standard BS 5867 accepts up to 3 percent, which is about 6 cm on a 213 cm drop. Linen moves the most, polyester the least. We test first and tell you what to expect.
Yes, with care. The fabric side is vacuumed and can usually be steamed. The coated side is not steamed, because heat can damage the coating, so it is vacuumed and wiped damp instead. If the coating is already cracking, we tell you before we start.
