Carpet cleaning · Dubai
A shampooed carpet often traps the dirt it was meant to remove, deep in the fibres. We work with the HYLA water filtration system instead. The air is drawn through a water bath, so what comes out of your carpets and rugs stays in the tank rather than being blown back into the room.
Free and without obligation. No extra charges on the day.

Carpet cleaning in Dubai has to get out what sits at the base of the pile: fine mineral grit that wears the fibres. We vacuum slowly with HYLA water filtration, then wash the carpet out where the fibre allows it, instead of working shampoo in. Dubai Municipality advises cleaning and drying spills on carpet within 24 hours.
A good carpet clean is mostly preparation and dry soil removal, then washing. Most of what makes a carpet grey is dry grit, and grit still in the pile when water arrives turns to mud at the base of the fibres.
We start by looking: which fibre, how the carpet is made, whether the colours hold, and what is already there before we touch it. Stains, worn traffic lanes and dark lines along the skirting are pointed out and agreed with you first, so nobody argues afterwards about what was there before.
Then the HYLA. It draws air through a water bath instead of a dust bag, slowly and in more than one direction. Spots and traffic lanes are pre-treated, the carpet is rinsed out where the fibre tolerates water, the pile is groomed so it dries evenly, and we tell you what to stay off and for how long.
| Step | What happens | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fibre, construction and existing marks checked, colour tested in a hidden spot | Decides the method before anything gets wet |
| 2 | Thorough dry vacuuming with HYLA water filtration | Grit comes out dry instead of turning to mud |
| 3 | Spots and traffic lanes pre-treated | Gives the cleaning agent time to work |
| 4 | Rinsed out where the fibre allows it | Dirt and residue leave the carpet |
| 5 | Pile groomed, airflow set up for drying | Even drying, fewer water marks |
| 6 | Walkthrough with you | What to stay off, and for how long today |
For most carpets, rinsing out beats shampooing in. Shampoo is designed to foam and lift dirt, but whatever is not fully removed stays in the pile, and a sticky residue holds the next dirt more readily than a clean fibre does. That is the reason our carpet page says “washed out, not shampooed in”.
The word that confuses most people is “steam”. What many companies in Dubai sell as carpet steam cleaning is hot water extraction: water is sprayed into the pile under pressure and sucked straight back out. The industry standard for upholstery cleaning, IICRC S300, is explicit that no live steam is involved in that method. Real steam, from a steam machine like ours that reaches 179 °C on the display, is a different tool with very little water, and we use it selectively rather than across a whole carpet.
Every method has a downside, including ours. Extraction leaves moisture in the carpet that has to dry. Water filtration vacuuming only works as well as the airflow: a peer reviewed comparison of filter bag, cyclonic and wet collection vacuums found that separation drops most for cyclonic and wet collectors when airflow falls. So the hose and nozzle have to be clear and the machine has to run at full suction, which is something you can see for yourself on the day.
| Method | What it does well | Its weak point |
|---|---|---|
| Shampoo | Quick visual lift on light soiling | Residue left in the pile holds new dirt |
| Hot water extraction (often called steam) | Rinses dirt and residue out | Moisture has to dry, risky on some fibres |
| Water filtration vacuuming (HYLA) | Removes dry grit, dust stays in the water | Depends on full airflow, does not wash the fibre |
Because household dust here is largely ground rock, and rock is abrasive. A 2023 study of twenty Dubai homes measured indoor dust with an average calcium content of 14,170 mg/kg, plus substantial potassium, magnesium, aluminium and iron. The authors trace it to the geology of the Arabian Peninsula and to transported dust.
In a carpet that grit works its way down to the base of the pile. Every step grinds it against the fibres, which is why traffic lanes in Dubai homes look worn and dull long before the carpet is old. Regular, slow vacuuming removes it before it does the damage. A quick pass over the surface does not.
The load is not even across the year. Our evaluation of three years of Copernicus air quality data for Dubai shows coarse particulate (PM10) peaking in July and August at around 170 to 180 µg/m³ as a monthly mean, more than three times January. A carpet cleaned in September or October removes a summer of it.
There is also a pattern you may have noticed without a name for it: dark lines along skirting boards and under doors. This is filtration soiling. Air pushed through the edge of the carpet leaves its dust behind, as if the fibre were a filter. With air conditioning running almost all year in Dubai, it builds up steadily. The IICRC standard lists it among the conditions to record before cleaning, because it does not always come out completely.
Spills right away, the whole carpet once or twice a year, timed after the summer. Dubai Municipality’s indoor air guideline gives the one firm rule: liquid spills on porous surfaces such as carpet should be cleaned and dried within 24 hours, or the material discarded. A spill that sits for days in a humid month soaks into the backing and underlay, and that is where smells start.
For the full clean, the calendar matters more than a fixed number. Dust in Dubai peaks in July and August, so a clean in September or October takes out the summer load. Homes with pets, small children or building work nearby need it more often. Between cleans, slow vacuuming with a machine that keeps its suction does most of the protective work.
Humidity matters too. From June to October the outdoor dew point in Dubai sits at or above 24 °C in a large share of hours, according to ten years of ERA5 data. If a spill or a wet clean is left to dry slowly in those months, the carpet stays damp longer, so drying deserves as much attention as cleaning.
Rugs need more care than wall to wall carpet, because they are made from a wider range of fibres and dyes, and some of them react badly to water. Before a rug gets wet, we want to know what it is made of.
Synthetic rugs, polypropylene in particular, take up almost no water and are the easiest to wash out. Wool takes up a lot of water and dries slowly, and its dyes need testing first. Viscose, often sold as art silk or bamboo silk, becomes much weaker when wet and can lose its sheen or show permanent marks where it was rubbed. Cotton fringes and foundations can turn brown if they stay damp too long.
Some rugs should not be wet cleaned on the floor of your living room at all: hand knotted silk, antique pieces and rugs whose dyes bleed in the test. For those we tell you plainly, clean what can be cleaned safely, such as dry soil removal, and recommend a specialist rug washer rather than gamble with a piece that cannot be replaced.
| Fibre | How it behaves | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Polypropylene and polyester | Takes up very little water | Washed out as standard |
| Wool | Takes up a lot of water, slow to dry | Colour test first, controlled moisture |
| Viscose (art silk, bamboo silk) | Much weaker when wet, marks easily | Low moisture only, or dry soil removal |
| Cotton fringes and foundations | Can brown if they stay damp | Fast drying, fringes checked first |
| Silk, antique, bleeding dyes | High risk on site | Dry soil removal, specialist washer advised |
A lot comes out of a carpet that looked hopeless. Some things do not, and you should hear that before the job rather than after it.
If something on this list happens anyway, for example a stain that comes back as the carpet dries, send us a photo on WhatsApp and the same team comes back to deal with it.
Honest limits
By the questions they ask before they start. A good carpet cleaner wants to know the fibre, tests the colour in a hidden spot, and points out existing stains, wear and filtration lines with you before anything gets wet.
By the way they talk about their method. Anyone who describes hot water extraction as steam, or presents shampoo, steam or extraction as the answer to every carpet, is selling a machine rather than a result. Every method has a weak point, and a good cleaner will tell you which one applies to your carpet.
And by what they promise. Nobody can guarantee every stain will disappear. Nobody should promise that a carpet clean does something for your health. A cleaner who talks about drying, about what to stay off and about what will not come out is the one who has thought about your carpet rather than the next booking.
Preparation is quick. Clear small items, toys and cables off the carpet, and tell us which furniture stays where it is. If a rug is valuable, antique or silk, say so when you book, and send a photo of the label or the back if there is one. Tell us about anything that has already been treated with a product, because some products set stains or react with what we use.
Drying time is honest only on the day. The IICRC standard names the factors: fibre, construction, how much moisture went in, and the temperature and humidity of the room. A synthetic carpet in a cool, air conditioned room in January dries far faster than a wool rug in August. Keep the AC running, keep doors to the room open where you can, and stay off it until we say so.
We agree one fixed price on WhatsApp before we start, with no extra charges on the day. It depends on the area of wall to wall carpet and the number and size of rugs, on the fibres, on the condition and the stains, and on access to the home. Many customers book carpets together with sofas, mattresses or a full home deep clean, and then it is one appointment and one team.
Most customers book carpet cleaning as part of a wider deep clean, kitchen and bathroom included, sometimes with the AC on the same day. Tell us what you need on WhatsApp and we put together one appointment.

No. Many customers hand over a key or let us in and leave. You tell us how you prefer it when we agree the appointment.
The machine draws air through a water bath instead of a dust bag, so dirt lifted from the fibres stays in the water tank instead of being blown back into the room.
Yes, with the same HYLA system, often on the same visit as the carpets.
For most carpets, neither shampoo nor real steam is the main tool. Shampoo tends to leave residue in the pile. What is usually sold as steam cleaning is hot water extraction, which the IICRC standard says uses pressurised rinse water, not live steam. Thorough dry vacuuming followed by rinsing out, where the fibre allows it, is the more reliable route.
It depends on the fibre, how the carpet is made, how much moisture went in, and the temperature and humidity of the room, which is how the IICRC standard puts it. A synthetic carpet in an air conditioned room dries far faster than a thick wool rug in a humid month. We tell you on the day, based on what we cleaned.
Viscose, often sold as art silk or bamboo silk, becomes much weaker when wet, so we use low moisture or dry soil removal only, after a test. Hand knotted silk, antique rugs and rugs whose dyes bleed in the test are better off with a specialist rug washer, and we will tell you so rather than risk them on site.
That is filtration soiling. Air pushed through the edge of the carpet, under doors and along the walls, leaves its fine dust in the fibre as if the carpet were a filter. With the AC running most of the year, it builds up steadily in Dubai homes. It usually lightens a lot with cleaning, but it does not always disappear completely.
Blot it, do not rub it, and get it dry. Dubai Municipality’s indoor air guideline asks for liquid spills on carpet to be cleaned and dried within 24 hours. In humid months, use airflow from the AC or a fan. If the spill was large or went through to the underlay, a professional rinse and drying is worth it.
